Tuned Tuesday

Tuned Tuesday is my new weekly post matching a song (or more) to a book. And this week the song is...

Anklebiters by Paramore

Another One Bites the Dust by Queen

Okay, so I kind of had to have two songs for this book. I think they both fit. And I'll explain once you look at the book cover and description below.

12081652

Synopsis:

Between the pissed off creatures that want demon-hunter Lily Marks dead and the fallen angel who just...wants her, Lily is about ready to trade in forever for a comfy job in a cubicle farm.

The fact that she and Julian are civil to one another is enough to have her thrown out of the Sanctuary, but she can't shake her not-so-angelic stalker or how he brings her dangerously close to ecstasy.

Her forbidden relationship with Julian provides the perfect fuel for suspicion when a traitor is discovered to be working within the Sanctuary. Lily quickly finds herself hunted by well, everyone.

Her only hope is to discover the real traitor before she loses everything--and she'll need Julian's help. That is, if Julian is really there to help her...and not destroy her.

Yeah, being a Nephilim isn't everything it's cracked up to be.

So, the first song was Anklebiters by Paramore. It's from their new album they self-titled Paramore. Now if you have had a chance to read Unchained, you may guess why I think Anklebiters fits. How about I break it down for those of you who have no clue what the hell I'm talking about? First off, what is an ankle biter? One definition is a child who follows on your heels. Another definition is a person who blindingly follows someone else, often misleadingly. If you've read Unchained, you'll know that Julian accuses Lily of doing exactly that.

The second I would sincerely hope everyone has heard of. Another One Bites the Dust by Queen is a classic. If any there are any oldies out there they'll know what I mean. Well, not old-old people. They'd probably hate the music. I mean middle-aged. But I'm so young anyone over 30 is old to me. No offense meant to anyone, by the way. I digress. people with good taste will know Queen. Or if you were alive when they were really popular too. Anyways, I'm going all over the place here. Lily goes around killing minions, deadheads, and of course the Fallen. And whenever an evil thing is killed by Lily and her friends I keep thinking of this song. Listen to it and you'll understand.

Hope you read Unchained if you haven't already. Happy reading!

Monday Madness

Monday Madness is once a week and it is where I choose a cool or 'mad' word from a book.

This week's mad word is...

JAR·RED
present tense: jär/

1.    send a painful or damaging shock through (something esp. a part of the body).
2.    have an unpleasant, annoying, or disturbing effect.

Okay, so I'm sure everyone has seen this word. And on Google when I typed in 'define jarred' they gave me the present tense which is jar. And, no offense to jar, but jarred sounds cooler. Try it. Jar-red. It's a cool word. I love it. Now while this word is in a ton of books, I found it several times in Suddenly Royal, by Nichole Chase.

Synopsis:

Samantha Rousseau is used to getting her hands dirty. Working toward a master’s degree in wildlife biology while helping take care of her sick father, she has no time for celebrity gossip, designer clothes, or lazy vacations. So when a duchess from the small country of Lilaria invites her to dinner, Samantha assumes it’s to discuss a donation for the program. The truth will change the course of her life in ways she never dreamed.

Alex D’Lynsal is trying to keep his name clean. As crown prince of Lilaria, he’s had his share of scandalous headlines, but the latest pictures have sent him packing to America and forced him to swear off women—especially women in the public eye. That is, until he meets Samantha Rousseau. She’s stubborn, feisty, and incredibly sexy. Not to mention heiress to an estate in his country, which makes her everyone’s front-page news.

While Sam tries to navigate the new world of politics and wealth, she will also have to dodge her growing feelings for Alex. Giving in to them means more than just falling in love; it would mean accepting the weight of an entire country on her shoulders.

I love this book. I'm not a huge princess/royalty fan in general, but I swooned over this book. It was awesome. I even loved the cover. The model nailed it. Or the photographer or cover designer or whatever. They nailed it. It just... works. I also here there's a second book in the point of view of Cathy. Can't wait for that!

Happy reading!

Breathtaking Blogs: Pages of Forbidden Love

Every Thursday I have Breathtaking Blogs, where I feature another book blog on my book blog. And this week's spotlight is on...

3333

About Us:

Founder: Alexa- I’m the head figure of the blog, the one who originally started it all. I’m a 22 year old college student majoring in Nuclear Medicine and Health Care Management. My first love is YA and my second will always be Adult Romance. Ever since starting the blog I have expanded to try manga, urban fantasy, sci-fi and even some audio books. I love the blogging community because I get to talk about my favorite hobby with people who feel the same way.

Co-Bloggers: Bianca- Hey! I am Bianca. I am a 22 year old college student (majoring in Human Development) who loves to…Yup you guessed it READ! I usually have a book in my bag and if I don’t well then it is a sad day lol. I prefer to read YA but I read other genres also. Books are not my only passion. I also LOVE to (1) Write. I feel like I always have ideas floating around and write whenever and wherever. (2) Listen to music. I can’t go a whole day without listening to music. If it isn’t playing on my Ipod or computer then it is playing in my head or coming out of my mouth (I am in no way a good singer but that doesn’t stop me). (3) Watch movies. I am totally addicted to Netflix and anything on the CW. I have really grown to love blogging and I am honored and excited to be joining Alexa on this blog!

Johnny- Well hello people of the book blogging world! My name is Johnny. I have known Alexa for quite some time and she is a grand person and what better person to have a blog with. I am excited to be a part of her blog as she considers it to be her baby and her pride and joy. I am a college graduate with a double degree (history and writing). I am currently just trying to find a new job because working where I do at the moment does not seem to cutting it. I figured that this is almost a saving grace because it entitles me to become part of something larger than I could have ever imagined it to be. In the two years that Alexa has invested on the blog, it has grown by leaps and bounds.(Johnny basically likes to read horror, sci-fi, and some graphic novels. I, Alexa, am slowly but surely getting him to try some YA books and maybe even a few adult romances.)

Associate Reviewers: Pragya- Hi, I am a 25 year old Clinical Psychologist, currently doing PhD in Clinical Psychology. I read just about everything I can get my hands on and at times that includes acknowledgements in books (yes, the thing that you skip by). I love reading those since they give me so much insight into an author’s self. Oh well, enough about that. I read everything from fiction to non-fiction but I primarily love reading YA, thrillers, fantasy, romance as they take me into an entirely different world, the world that has no textbooks in it. I have some quirks, one of them is I NEVER read a book blurb before reading the book. As to how I know which book to buy or read, well, keep guessing. Another quirk of mine is that I read 10 books at a time (when the books are really good, else the number notches upto 15) because I’m too attention deficit to stick to one. I love the blogging world and thanks to it, have around 4000 books on my to-be-read list. Connect with Pragya: Blog | Twitter | Facebook | Goodreads

Deb- I’m your normal, run-of-the-mill Midwestern Mom! I’m pretty much a slave to my family so when I’m not waiting on my 21 year old, my 7 year old, or my crazy hubby, I’m buried in my Kindle! I practically don’t go anywhere without it. My husband calls it my “boyfriend,” that being said, I bring my “boyfriend” to bed each and every night! Not that the hubby minds, especially when I read him a HOT bedtime story!! In addition to reading, I enjoy cooking, hunting, camping, and most outdoor activities! I believe in reviewing everything I read because how in the heck are the authors going to know what we like and loathe for future books. Book reviews are highly personal and reflect the opinion of the reviewer: ME, so don’t feel like you have to like a book because I do and vise versa with dislike! Happy reading peeps! Connect with Deb: Goodreads

Guest Post:

From reading Kacii's blog I can tell she loves books that have romance in them. I mean what is a good book if it doesn't have some romance in it. Plus with romance comes those book boyfriends that we can't help but collect over the years. I'm going to showcase some of my favorite book boyfriends from Adult Romance and from YA Romance.
So here is the list of fictional men that I like to think I have all to myself!

Warner from the Shatter Me Series by Tahereh Mafi
Warner is perfect in every way that a book boyfriend should be. He is handsome, powerful, demanding, yet shy and scared of who he might become. His best scene is simply Chapter 62 in Unravel Me.

Vishous from Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Ward
This man was the one I loved from the start of the series. He loves control, is a genius with computers, is smart, and knows his way around a woman’s body. His most famous scene/the scene I love is the bathroom scene with Jane in Lover Unbound.

Alex from Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles
This book boyfriend will leave you for a taste of a bad boy with a motorcycle. He is strong, loyal, caring, sweet, and downright sexy. My favorite scene of Alex would have to be when he takes his time making love to the heroine.

Noah from Wild Card by Lora Leigh
This man will break your heart from the moment you meet him. Noah is fierce, sexy, a military man, left for dead on a mission only to come back to win his wife over. He is a changed man though and comes back to his wife in unexpected ways. My favorite scene of Noah’s would have to be when his wife finally realizes what is going on, how he helps his wife learn to live and love again.

Logan from Mythos Academy Series by Jennifer Estep
Logan is a spartan warrior who is brave, strong, smart, charming, dangerous and sexy. He is always there for Gwen no matter how bad things get and the boy is just plain charming. Plus he plays hard to get at first and I always like when romance develops slowly.

Jeff Martini from The Kitty Katt Series by Gini Koch
This man will whip you into shape to make sure his alien race survives but he will also melt your heart a little at a time. Jeff is slightly uptight, runs his command center by the rules, however he can go again and again and again due to his alien genes. My favorite scene with him would probably be in the first book of the series when he first makes love to Kitty. The scene is hot, hilarious, and not too over the top.

Bones from the Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost
This man will leave you guessing at every turn but when he does reveal a piece of himself watch out because it will leave you breathless. Bones is mysterious, sexy, a fighter, and an exmanwhore who knows just how to work his body and leave a girl blushing in the morning. My favorite scene with Bones is any scene with him. He demands attention no matter what is going on!

Terrible from the Downside Ghosts Series by Stacia Kane
This man will chill you to the bone when you first meet him because he is the badass in town that beats up people in order to get money to his drug lord, there is one woman that will drive him to the point of pain again and again. Terrible is a man who got stuck on the wrong side of the world, he is not a handsome guy but what he lacks in looks he makes up for in personality and love. My favorite scene with Terrible is in the second book of the series when he explains to Chess just how much he loves her and how bad he wants her.

And remember while I don’t like to share my fictional men I can’t help but encourage all of you to go pick up the books that these men belong in. The books are sure to give you a great time not just with the hot male but with the storylines as well.

Thank you Alexa! And all of the other members from Pages of Forbidden Love. Those were some great picks (and a couple of them are my faves too). We all look forward to seeing more from you guys! So, if you'd like to go check out Pages of Forbidden Love, click here

Happy reading!

Tuned Tuesday

Tuned Tuesday is my new weekly post matching a song (or more) to a book. And this week the song is...

Monster by Paramore

Monster by Paramore reminds me Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick. The reason? Well, listen to the lyrics. The notable verse is this:

"I'm only human,
I've got a skeleton in me,
But I'm not the villain,
Despite what you're always preaching,
Call me a traitor,
I'm just collecting your victims,
They're getting stronger,
I hear them calling,
Calling, calling..."

It reminds me of Nora battling against fallen angels and banding together with nephilim. Nora starts off as only human, and against all odds she wins several battles against neph and fallen angel alike. It seems a fitting song.

12751687

Synopsis:

Will love conquer all?

Nora and Patch thought their troubles were behind them. Hank is gone and they should be able to put his ugly vendetta to rest. But in Hank's absence, Nora has become the unwitting head of the Nephilim and must finish what Hank began. Which ultimately means destroying the fallen angels - destroying Patch.

Nora will never let that happen, so she and Patch make a plan: lead everyone to believe they have broken up, and work the system from the inside. Nora will convince the Nephilim that they are making a mistake in fighting the fallen angels, and Patch will find out everything he can from the opposing side. They will end this war before it can even begin.

But the best-laid plans often go awry. Nora is put through the paces in her new role and finds herself drawn to an addictive power she never anticipated.

As the battle lines are drawn, Nora and Patch must confront the differences that have always been between them and either choose to ignore them or let them destroy the love they have always fought for.

Monday Madness

Monday Madness is once a week and it is where I choose a cool or 'mad' word from a book.

This week's mad word is...

RIV·ET
/ˈrivit/

noun
a short metal pin or bolt for holding together two plates of metal, its headless end being beaten out or pressed down when in place.
a device similar to a rivet for holding seams of clothing together.
verb
join or fasten (plates of metal or other material) with a rivet or rivets.

And the book I found this word in (it may be in others as well) City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare. It's near the end of the book, where Clary shreds the ship Valentine is on. I can't provide a specific reference, only because I borrowed City of Ashes from the library and no longer have it.

1582996

Synopsis:

Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

In this breathtaking sequel to City of Bones, Cassandra Clare lures her readers back into the dark grip of New York City's Downworld, where love is never safe and power becomes the deadliest temptation.

Breathtaking Blogs: What You Need to Know

Some of you have heard of this new feature on my blog. Think of it as a meme, except I don't expect people to follow along with me. You can if you want, just leave a link to your post in the comments below.

Now I guess would be a good time to tell you exactly what Breathtaking Blogs is. Well, it's a feature. Or a spotlight, whichever you prefer to call it. It focuses on other book blogs to help generate publicity for the both of us. It also gives other people a different perspective of other book blogs. You can compare and contrast different blogs every week.

If you're interested in having your book blog featured on here read through the requirements below:

* Must be a Middle Grade, Young Adult, or New Adult book blog. I love book blogs that are R rated, but my blog is for teens mainly and I want appropriate content on here. New Adult is stretching that as it is.
* Must be at least three months old. Now this may seem unfair to the newer book blogs, but if a blog doesn't have any interesting content then there's not much point in featuring it. The blog needs time to develop.
* Need some sort of topic to have. It can be an interview, guest post, whatever, but simply saying your blog is awesome isn't going to cut it. Blog readers will get bored otherwise. So you need to be creative. I'll help and provide some ideas, but I'm featuring your blog, so help would be appreciated.
* A giveaway would be nice, but it's not mandatory.

So if you can meet all of those requirements and are interested in having a spotlight on The Kooky Bookworm fill out this form by clicking here.

Changes

Starting off I would like to announce the winner of the Origin giveaway!

Megan

Congrats, Megan! You win a Kindle copy of Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout. You have 48 hours to respond or a new winner will be chosen.

And on to other things...

So recently I've been a mess as far as posting goes. I held the Origin giveaway as an apology for that but it's still a mess. I'm in the process of moving so things are kind of hectic. I have a plan, though. And here it is:

Every Monday I will choose a book with a cool word in it and feature the book on my blog. Now I say 'cool' word, but it may just be a 'cool' word to me. I don't know. I like to collect 'cool' words, and who knows? Maybe you do too.

Every Tuesday I will choose a book and a song that I thing represents a theme in the book. Some people have playlists that they make to go with a book. Some authors do it too and have the playlists at the end of the book.

Every Wednesday is a meme day. Waiting on Wednesday to be precise. If you don't know, it's a meme about what books you're waiting for.

Every Thursday I'll be doing a spotlight on another book blog. I may interview the bloggers, or something. I'll be doing a feature of some kind on the blog. This might not start right away, as I'll have to get in contact with the other blogs before I can do a feature on them.

Friday is my day off for planning and just chilling. It's the end of the week, I don't want to be thinking about everything I have to do.

Saturday is another meme day. Stacking the Shelves. It's the books that I have collected during the week, whether from the library, bought, borrowed, or won in a giveaway.

Sunday is usually another meme day used for recapping the week and getting a preview for the next week. I won't be doing that again until I'm back to my normal schedule (at least two months from now). We really don't need a recap and preview if it's going to be the same thing every week. So this will be another day for chilling and planning.

All of this goes into effect on Monday, October 7th 2013.

Thanks a bundle,

Kacii
