didn't like it it was ok liked it really liked it (my current rating) really liked it (my current rating)

Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Date Published: August 27th 2013
Genre: Young Adult Sci-Fi/Supernatural/Fantasy Romance

Origin most definitely displays a rollercoaster of emotions. I actually had to run around screaming to calm down before beginning to write this review. That ending is a cliffhanger that's going to make you scream "WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY???????" about a thousand times over.

The story picks up where it left off in the last book with Katy being held by the DOD. Of course, Daemon being Daemon, decided that the best thing he could do was join Katy in her confinement. At first I thought it was a really idiotic idea, but eventually I realized his genius.

We finally find what Luc is, and it is a pretty interesting find. Unfortunately, my lips are sealed, so you'll be getting no info on that lovely discovery. I will say that Daemon holds his promise to burn the world down for Katy or rather *cough, cough* Vegas. But you'll have to read Origin to figure that part out too.

Let's get the bad things about this book out of the way first. To start off, I actually cried, screamed, and caused bodily harm to both myself and my poor bedroom door by hitting it repeatedly. The emotions in this book are INTENSE. It should come with a warning label. I suppose it could be considered a good thing that JLA's writing is powerful enough to make me (and possible others?) react so strongly. But I haven't been this crazed by a book since I read Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. I hit a wall that time.

The awesome things about this book are endless. Like I said, powerful emotion could be considered good or bad, depending on your viewpoint. Same with the cliffhanger. It makes me want to hit my door again with the way the book ended, but there's a guarantee that I'll be reading the next book. So I guess it's good for business.

Other great things: Blake goes bye-bye! Finally (though I do feel a twinge of guilt for that). Daemon and Katy have awesome make-up-for-lost-time sex. Yay! Love make-up-for-lost-time sex. It's usually better than the first time they have sex. JLA borrows a little bit from Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins (genius idea, BTW). Considering that Sweet Evil is my favorite demon/angel/neph series, I can appreciate the awesomeness of that.

There's so many other things that happen that would blow your socks off, but, in Katy's words "I'm trying to keep the mystery alive." You'll read that quote in Origin :) and I think it fits so I'm borrowing it from Katy.

Overall, this book is wonderful, it'll keep you on the edge of your seat and I'm sure my family is glad that I've finished reading so the mood swings from crying to screaming to being increasingly violent will stop. Too bad for them I plan on reading it again *cue evil laugh*

Trust me, you're going to love it ;)

Amazon Paperback / Kindle / Barnes & Noble (Nook & Paperback)

I hope you guys will all read this book! I really loved it. Any of you have other books by JLA that you'd recommend? I've read Frigid, Wait For You, all of the other books in the Lux series, and Obsessed. I don't know all that much about her other books. Suggestions? You're welcome to recommend books that are totally unrelated to JLA as well.

Interview with Jennifer L. Armentrout

How many of you are excited for the release of Opal? I know I can't wait! For those of you who don't know, Opal is the third book in the Lux series. The first book in the Lux series is Obsidian, and to check out my review click here.
Here's the synopsis for Opal, taken from Goodreads:

No one is like Daemon Black.
When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.
But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.
After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.
Together we’re stronger... and they know it.

Opal (Lux, #3)

Author bio (from her website): USA TODAY Bestselling author Jennifer lives in Martinsburg, West Virginia. All the rumors you’ve heard about her state aren’t true. When she’s not hard at work writing. she spends her time reading, working out, watching really bad zombie movies, pretending to write, and hanging out with her husband and her Jack Russel Loki.
Her dreams of becoming an author started in algebra class, where she spent most of her time writing short stories….which explains her dismal grades in math. Jennifer writes young adult paranormal, science fiction, fantasy, and contemporary romance. She also writes adult romance under the name J. Lynn.

I asked Jennifer L. Armentrout for a quick interview, and here it is.

When did you decide you start writing?
As cliche as it sounds, I've always wanted to be writer. As a kid, I wrote really bad poems on my bedroom walls. It was doing the 9th grade, that I wrote my first novel by longhand. So I've always wanted to write.
Have you always wanted to write, or did you want to do something else?
I went to college for psychology and criminal justice. It wasn't until 2007 that got back into writing.
How long do you see yourself writing for?
Forever, hopefully.
What inspired you to write the Lux series?
My editor approached me, asking if I'd be interested in writing about aliens in high school. My first response was to laugh and say no, but the more I thought about it, I came up with Katy, Daemon, and the idea of the Luxens. The rest is history.
Is Damon based off of anyone you know, and if so, can I meet him?
No. He's not based off of anyone, but if he was, he'd be a keeper.

Unfortunately at this time she didn't have time for a longer interview, but if you want to contact Jennifer L. Armentrout to ask a question you can get in touch with her through her Facebook page, Goodreads, her website: http://www.jenniferarmentrout.com/, her website: http://jenniferarmentrout.blogspot.com/, follow on Twitter  or her e-mail: jenniferlarmentrout(at)live(dot)com.
Opal's release date is December 18th 2012. You can pre-order Opal from Amazon, Indiebound, Google eBooks, Better World Books, Indigo, Barnes and Noble, Books a Million and more.

Thanks everyone! And thank you Jennifer L. Armentrout!

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Obsidian (Lux, #1)Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When people mention aliens I think of green slimy creatures from outer space who like to eat flesh and terrorize people. I do not think of super hot super bad ass neighbors who pose at normal teenagers. To say this book took me by surprise is an understatement.
The protagonist of the story is named Katy. She moves to West Virginia from Florida and has to deal with the craziness of a small town and a world of change. I actually like Katy, whereas most female protagonists are too silly to like and I only read the book because of the hot male lover.
Not Katy. She is instantly likable and relatable. How many people who read books like to read? A fair amount, I'm sure. And how many of those people who like to read review books on blogs? Well I am certainly one of those people. And even if you aren't exactly like her (I know I'm not), she's a really nice character that's portrayed very well.
Daemon is... whoa, just... whoa. He starts off as a total jackass and I wouldn't have the control Katy does. I would have slapped him immediately. Yes he has this big secret... but really? Do you have to be so mean? I probably wouldn't have ever liked him with his horrid attitude if I didn't understand the why part of it.
That's the thing; you shouldn't judge any people (or fictional characters) unless you know their reasoning behind their actions. Since I understood his reasoning's, I ended up liking him. I mean, if it was my families life versus a friendship, I'd choose keeping them alive too. I gotta hand it to Katy, she's a lot stronger than I am with putting up with people's crap.
But you also see it from Katy's point of view in the matter. To be humiliated like that in front of everyone... dang, that girl has guts. I understand what it's like to be humiliated like that in front of lots of people and I can say that I still hold a grudge, and I didn't retaliate then. Katy isn't a weak girl who needs saving, and I really admire that about her.
So yeah, you can see this book and go 'aliens, eww,' or you can read it and go 'that was the most fudge-bunnies-and-fucktastic-awesome book ever!' Or something like that.
