Lexi is traveling to Florida to find her mom who supposedly is traveling with a circus. When she gets to Florida she gets sucked into the melee. Her mom isn't at the circus, but her future is. She finds new friends and she gets a maybe-boyfriend. And then her ex-best friend shows up.

It's a pretty good book. I liked the whole circus part of the book. It was different than most young adult novels I've read. But at the same time its a lot like other young adult novels. It has the teens, the love, and the hope for a future.

Not too shabby for a weekend read.

Synopsis:

Lexi Ryan just ran away to join the circus, but not on purpose.

A music-obsessed, slightly snarky New York City girl, Lexi is on her own. After making a huge mistake--and facing a terrible tragedy--Lexi has no choice but to track down her long-absent mother. Rumor has it that Lexi's mom is somewhere in Florida with a traveling circus.

When Lexi arrives at her new, three-ring reality, her mom isn't there . . . but her destiny might be. Surrounded by tigers, elephants, and trapeze artists, Lexi finds some surprising friends and an even more surprising chance at true love. She even lucks into a spot as the circus's fortune teller, reading tarot cards and making predictions.

But then Lexi's ex-best friend from home shows up, and suddenly it's Lexi's own future that's thrown into question.

With humor, wisdom, and a dazzlingly fresh voice, this debut reminds us of the magic of circus tents, city lights, first kisses, and the importance of an excellent playlist

I think I'm getting bored of the paranormal stories out there. They're all the same. Or maybe its the young adult stories out there. I find myself enjoying new adult much more than young adult at the moment.

Abbey is a regular sixteen year old. Except with almost no friends. Then she goes to Salem and finds out that she is descended from the Salem witches and she awakens her powers. She tries to make a guy she's crushing on fall in love with her. She gets caught up in spells and hexes. And then there's the boy who knows more about herself than she does.

This book was kind of meh for me. It was okay. It didn't make me want to tear my eyes out. But it wasn't fabulous. And I have to wonder if that is simply my taste in books changing or the quality of the book. I can't say for sure.

I kind of feel bad for giving the book three stars when I'm just not feeling it, but it could simply be that this is not the book for me.

Synopsis:

There's more than one way to be powerful . . .

It is during a routine school project that Abby Silva--sixteen and nearly friendless--makes a startling discovery: She is descended from women who were accused of witchcraft back in 1600s Salem. And when Abby visits nearby Salem, strange, inexplicable events start to unfold. Objects move when she wills them to. Candles burst into sudden flame. And an ancient spell book somehow winds up in her possession.

Trying to harness her newfound power, Abby concocts a love potion to win over her longtime crush--and exact revenge upon his cruel, bullying girlfriend. But old magic is not to be trifled with. Soon, Abby is thrust headlong into a world of hexes, secrets, and danger. And then there's Rem Anders, the beautiful, mysterious Salem boy who seems to know more about Abby than he first lets on.

A reckoning is coming, and Abby will have to make sense of her history--and her heart--before she can face the powerful truth.

Typical teenage drama of today. Girl feels invisible, girl takes sexy photo and send to hot boy, hot boy gives invisible girl the time of day, hot boy dumps invisible girl, invisible girl takes justice on hot boy, hot boy takes revenge on invisible girl.

I hear about stories like this all of the time on the news. I can't say that the idea was original, but this was one of the first times I've seen it written in the young adult genre. I think this book went about as expected. I wasn't wowed. But I didn't die of boredom either.

I do think it's good that there's a book out like this, though. It could have the potential to educate young girls about the consequences of 'sexting.' Maybe there won't be as many stories like this in real life anymore.

One can hope.

Okay, so this was a super funny book. I couldn't stop laughing. And it was crazy. But a good kind of crazy.

Sophie is just your average teenage girl with average teenage girl problems. Boys, drama, and getting probation at school. Until she finds out that she's Persephone and she has to help save the world. Oh, and someone had tried to murder her, and they may try again. She also can't stop seeming to kiss Kai, prince of the underworld.

Very fun book. It was light and easy to read. Not some heavy emotionally-baggage-filled story. I loved it. It was just the right kind of thing to read during my stressful exam week because it had me laughing so much I forgot about my own problems, like passing chemistry.

Loved this book, can't wait for the next one. In the meantime, I think I'll re-read this book :)

Synopsis:

Sixteen-year-old Sophie Bloom wishes she’d been taught the following:
a) Bad boy’s presence (TrOuBlE) + teen girl’s brain (DraMa) = TrAuMa (Highly unstable and very volatile.)
b) The Genus Greekulum Godissimus is notable for three traits: 1) awesome abilities, 2) grudges, and 3) hook-ups, break-ups, and in-fighting that puts cable to shame.

Prior to the Halloween dance, Sophie figures her worst problems involve adolescent theatrics, bitchy teen yoga girls, and being on probation at her boarding school for mouthy behaviour. Then she meets bad boy Kai and gets the kiss that rocks her world.

Literally.

This breath stealing lip lock reawakens Sophie’s true identity: Persephone, Goddess of Spring. She’s key to saving humanity in the war between the Underworld and Olympus, target numero uno of Hades and Zeus, and totally screwed.

Plus there’s also the little issue that Sophie’s last memory as Persephone was just before someone tried to murder her.

Big picture: master her powers, get her memories back, defeat Persephone’s would be assassin, and save the world. Also, sneak into the Underworld to retrieve stolen property, battle the minions of Hades and Zeus, outwit psycho nymphs, slay a dragon, rescue a classmate, keep from getting her butt expelled from the one place designed to keep her safe …

… and stop kissing Kai, Prince of the Underworld.

My Ex From Hell is a YA romantic comedy/Greek mythology smackdown. Love meets comedy with a whole lot of sass in book one of this teen fantasy romance series. Compared to Kai and Sophie, Romeo and Juliet had it easy.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

didn't like it it was ok liked it really liked it (my current rating) it was amazing

This book took me by surprise. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. I took one look at the cover and decided I wouldn't like it. I seem to be doing that a lot recently. It just shows you can never judge a book by its cover. I recently read Levitating Las Vegas. I hated it. But I read it because of the awesome cover.

Risk is an ex-SEAL and now works for a private security company. His first job? Babysit a generals daughter. Only, said daughter is far more challenging then he first thought. First off, she has a list of people who could possibly want to kill her. For someone who looks like a princess, she sure has a lot of enemies.

Addie may look like a sweet girl who is nothing more than a rich military brat. But in all actuality she has a ton of enemies. She's a vegetarian. And she puts animals lives before her own. Often times she will break the law for the animals. And now it has landed her in hot water with someone trying to kill her.

"You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life." - Winston Churchill

That is my first thought when hearing about Addie's list of enemies. She an animals rights leader. Which I approve of, since saving animals is something I strongly believe in. I like Addie. She's not perfect (she eats two bites of steak at one point. Not a very good vegetarian. And she eats fish, which in my book doesn't make her a vegetarian at all). But I like her. She stands up for what she believes in. She's so passionate about animals that she puts her life on the line for them.

I also like Risk. He's kind of cocky and not very humble about his looks, but he's not bad. He was screwed over and framed for something he didn't do (his SEAL buddies too). He's a good guy. Not as interesting as Addie, but I think I connect to her better because we're more alike and Risk and I. Though I do like Risk's adrenalin junkie attitude. Hence his name. I'd love to go skydiving, unfortunately I don't have any friends who are crazy as I am about that kind of stuff.

Several things I didn't like about the book: Addie isn't a real vegetarian. I realize that this is really an opinion and not a fact, but she eats fish. I take the concept of the eyes being windows to the soul literally. If something has two eyes then it has a soul therefore it is wrong to kill the animals (notice I said 'two' eyes. Yeah, spiders have four eyes I think. Or maybe it was eight? Well those things are soulless. I'll give me theory on that another time).

So I don't think Addie is a real vegetarian. And she takes two bites of steak. I can't fathom ever wanting to eat meat again. It doesn't smell good to me. It makes me want to gag. I can't look at meat without wanting to throw up. Yeah, I'm really stuck up on her not being a real vegetarian. And again, I know that's my opinion, not a fact, but it bugged me so I'm pointing it out.

Another thing I was disturbed about was the evil dude. I won't mention his name as that would be a spoiler, but I will tell you what the evil guy wants to do incase you have a weak stomach with this sort of thing. The guy trying to kill Addie wanted to hunt her. Like an animal. Put her in the shoes of the animals she tries so desperately to save. It made my stomach hurt reading about it. Who could be so messed up to even think that way? I guess I know how my mother feels about the Hunger Games now (she has four children, two of them very young, so the idea of children killing each other disturbs her).

But really, this was an awesome book, disturbing minds aside. I loved it and I was super impressed. I can't wait to read the next one. I hope it has the other SEAL guys in it. It was an addicting read.

So I didn't actually read Sweet, but I read True. Now I just finished reading Believe. I think I liked it better than True.

Robin used to be the party girl. The one who drank a ton and dressed like a slut and sometimes acted like one too. Until she woke up next to her best friends boyfriend. She doesn't remember any of it, but she so disgusted by herself being 'that girl' that she stops partying and drinking and dressing like hooker. Now she's boring and plan. She looks the pat too.

Phoenix spent the past five months in jail for beating up his mothers boyfriend. Said boyfriend happened to be raping his mother and carving into her stomach with a knife, but I guess the police just don't really care. Now he's out.

Eh, I didn't really feel like explaining the entire plot in that min-summary I just wrote. It wasn't the best summary I've written but whatever. Moving on. I loved this book. I loved Phoenix. He was just so... imperfectly perfect. I want a guy like that. And Robin. She made a mistake, but I think she did her best to fix it and that was that.

Definitely going to buy a copy for myself. They were just the perfect couple. I loved it. Such an achingly sweet book. Yes they had their issues. Nothing was perfect. But I thought it was amazing, and I loved it. Maybe I'll get to reading Sweet. Though I never did like Jessica, so maybe I won't. But I did like Riley, so maybe I will. I guess we shall see.

Robin used to be a party girl… until she got black out drunk and woke up in bed with her best friend's boyfriend. Now she's faced with being THAT girl, and couldn't be more disgusted with herself. She can't even tell her friends the reason for her sudden sobriety and she avoids everyone until she meets Phoenix—quiet, tattooed, and different in every way that's good and oh, so bad…

Phoenix is two days out of jail when he meets Robin at his cousin's house, and he knows that he has no business talking to her, but he's drawn to her quiet demeanor, sweet smile, and artistic talent. She doesn't care that he's done time, or that he only has five bucks to his name, and she supports his goal to be a tattoo artist.

But Phoenix knows Robin has a secret, and that it's a naïve dream to believe that his record won't catch up with them at some point. Though neither is prepared for the explosive result when the past collides with the present…

Well this was a fun novel. A ridiculous name, a good bad boy, and a sweet virgin trying to lose her virginity. Fun stuff.

Karma Points must really be cursed, either that or fate was waiting to give her just the right guy. I'm better on the latter. I mean, fate and karma are BFF's, so it only makes sense. But Karma is tired of being a virgin. She wants to let loose and have some fun. And she's about to. Until she lets it slip that she's a virgin. Suddenly the bad boy she went home with turns into Prince Charming trying to save a damsel in distress. Too bad she doesn't want to be saved.

This book was great. It was so light and fun. I enjoyed it immensely. I loved that they included a bucket list. It made me think about my own bucket list. This book wasn't heavy. I didn't feel pulled down by the characters emotions. And I loved that.

I will definitely read this again. And probably buy myself a copy. It was wonderful.

Saving Quinton by Jessica Sorensen

Saving Quinton (Nova, #2)Saving Quinton by Jessica Sorensen
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

didn't like it it was ok liked it (my current rating) really liked it it was amazing

This book was heartbreakingly sad. It was hard to see someone so messed up that they wanted to die, but kept failing to do so.

Nova makes videos of herself. Documenting her thoughts and feelings. It's actually a pretty good idea. She feels guilty, for leaving Quinton, just like she left Landon. So she searches for him. And then she finds him. She wants to save him, like she didn't save Landon. She doesn't want to sit back and watch anymore. She can't see another person she loves die.

Quinton just wants to die. But he can't seem to manage it. How is it fair, that his girlfriends and his cousin died and yet he lived? And he can't seem to die? Why can't he die? He killed them, and yet he is still alive.

I can't say I know a lot about drugs. Just what you hear on the news and stuff. The strongest thing I've ever been on is laughing gas. So yeah. I know pretty much nothing about drugs. But this sure was an eye opener.

I felt sorry for Quinton. I know that if I had accidentally killed my cousin and girlfriend (or boyfriend in my case) it would eat me up too. But trying to kill yourself with drugs? Not the answer to your problems.

I get why Nova was trying to help Quinton. I know I'd never be that strong. I would probably not do anything. But she is an incredibly strong character, and I have to love that. I never read Breaking Nova, and I'm not sure I want to.

This book was written really, really well. But it hurt so much to read, I'm not sure if I will read the other one. A really great book, but you've got to be able to handle the dark stuff to read books like these.

Synopsis:

Nova Reed can't forget him-Quinton Carter, the boy with the honey-brown eyes who made her realize she deserved more than an empty life. His pain was so similar to her own. But Nova has been coming to terms with her past and healing, while Quinton is out there somewhere, sinking deeper. She's determined to find him and help him . . . before it's too late.

Nova has haunted his dreams for nearly a year-but Quinton never thought a sweet, kind person like her would care enough about a person like him. To Quinton, a dark, dangerous life is exactly what he deserves. And Nova has no place in it. But Nova has followed him to Las Vegas, and now he must do whatever it takes to keep her away, to maintain his self-imposed punishment for the unforgivable things he's done. But there's one flaw in his plan: Nova isn't going anywhere . . .

I liked the book, though some of the injustice I couldn't stand to read. In the end I ended up not being able to finish it. It was... heartbreaking.

Sahar and Nasrin have been in love since they were six. They have kissed and stolen touches in the moments when no one is looking. Because they are in Iran, and because they are both girls, it is forbidden for them to love each other.

Nasrin is about to get married to a doctor her parents picked out for her. She suggests they continue in secret, but Sahar wants to love Nasrin openly and exclusively. So she thinks about getting sex reassignment.

I couldn't read much after the beginning. It was just so unfair! I had a hard time with it, but the writer was pretty good. I don't think I'd be able to finish it without crying, though.

Synopsis:

In this stunning debut, a young Iranian American writer pulls back the curtain on one of the most hidden corners of a much-talked-about culture.

Seventeen-year-old Sahar has been in love with her best friend, Nasrin, since they were six. They’ve shared stolen kisses and romantic promises. But Iran is a dangerous place for two girls in love—Sahar and Nasrin could be beaten, imprisoned, even executed if their relationship came to light.

So they carry on in secret—until Nasrin’s parents announce that they’ve arranged for her marriage. Nasrin tries to persuade Sahar that they can go on as they have been, only now with new comforts provided by the decent, well-to-do doctor Nasrin will marry. But Sahar dreams of loving Nasrin exclusively—and openly.

Then Sahar discovers what seems like the perfect solution. In Iran, homosexuality may be a crime, but to be a man trapped in a woman’s body is seen as nature’s mistake, and sex reassignment is legal and accessible. As a man, Sahar could be the one to marry Nasrin. Sahar will never be able to love the one she wants, in the body she wants to be loved in, without risking her life. Is saving her love worth sacrificing her true self?
