Forged in Grace Book Blitz

Hey everyone! As you can see I'm participating in the Forged in Grace book blitz! I have an excerpt of the book and everything you need to about the book and the author.

Forged in Grace by Jordan E. Rosenfeld
Publication date: February, 2013
Genre: Psychological Suspense (Adult w/ YA and NA crossover appeal)

Grace Jensen survived a horrific fire at age 15. The flames changed her: badly scarred in body and mind, Grace developed an ability to feel other people’s pain. Unable to bear human touch, she has made a small life for herself in Northern California, living with her hoarder mother, tending wounded animals, and falling a little in love with her former doctor. Her safe world explodes when the magnetic Marly Kennet reappears in town; Grace falls right back into the dynamic of their complicated friendship. Marly is the holder of many secrets, including one that has haunted Grace for over a decade: what really happened the night of the fire?

When Marly exhorts Grace to join her in Las Vegas, to make up for the years they have been lost to each other, Grace takes a leap of faith and goes. Although Marly is not entirely honest about her intentions, neither woman anticipates that enlarging Grace’s world will magnify her ability to sense the suffering of others—or that she will begin to heal wounds by swallowing her own pain and laying her hands on the afflicted.

This gift soon turns darker when the truth of Marly’s life—and the real reason she ended her friendship with Grace—pushes the boundaries of loyalty and exposes both women to danger.

Prologue:

I feel swimmy, high, adrenaline on full tilt, though I haven’t consumed a drop of alcohol. “We need to subdue him first,” I hear myself say. “Can’t just slap a hand on his face and hope it knocks him out.”
Marly nods, though she is too encumbered to move quickly, and me—there’s no guarantee of what I can do.
“I have pepper spray,” she fidgets with her purse as though she’s about to withdraw it. “And it’s not like we have to break in, Grace. He’ll let us in, when he sees it’s me. Think I’m coming to talk.”
“Okay, then,” I say, before I lose my nerve. And we get in her car and drive.
We park and walk four residential blocks. The streets are lit by yellow halogen lamps, but there’s also a nearly-full moon. Its bold light makes me feel bolstered, sanctioned. Marly points to his condo, one square box among many in a beige world of homogenous residences.
“This could have been my life,” Marly whispers, her face a portrait of disgust. “I should be in that kitchen right now making dinner, then go spread my legs for him. I can’t believe he thought he could get away with what he did to me.”
The guilt surges through me again. If only I hadn’t healed away the evidence. But we didn’t know. Nobody could have known.
“Let’s do it soon, before I chicken out.” My palms have begun to ache with heat.
“Damn straight,” she agrees, and the toss of her hair is so familiar it’s like we’re fifteen again.
Simultaneously, we take a deep breath.
Marly repeats her lines, “I’ll say we’re here to talk—that I brought you as my friend and witness. That will put him on his best behavior. And you?”

I choke a little on my own saliva, cough, and answer, “I’ll ask for a glass of water, say I got too much sun today. He’ll take one look at me and have a hard time refusing, right?”
Marly pats her purse. “Let’s go.” She’s always one step ahead of me.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
didn't like it it was ok liked it really liked it (my current rating) it was amazing

Publisher: Boroughs Publishing Group

Genre: Young Adult Paranormal Romance

The first thing I thought when I began reading CIRCLE OF LIES was that Teagan and Aidan are really suited for each other. They seem like the perfect match. They balance each other out. The second thing I thought was yikes, Peter is a nutshell. Way worse then Kendall.

Let's back up a bit. I'll give you the rundown on the book. It's from three different people's point of view: Teagan (she's human), Aidan (werewolf), and Peter (he's lost his marbles). Aidan meet's Taegan for the first time, and whadaya know. He's hooked. Teagan, unfortunately, has been burned by a hot guy before, and has lost the ability to trust most people. Her home life makes some people's look like royalty.

For a big part of this book Aidan is trying to woo Taegan because hey, he's all about this girl. Teagan is a skeptic when it comes to love and hot guys. Who can blame her? And then there's Peter. His uncle died in front of him after being torn to pieces by a werewolf. And Peter went off the deep end, losing his marbles along the way. Now he wants to wipe out all werewolves.

If you haven't read PACK OF LIES, the first book, then I'd sugest you do that before continuing to read. If you have read PACK OF LIES, you know a) Marcus is an ass and b) Cade and Aidan are brothers. Now that causes for some series drama. Everyone of these characters carries around some serious baggage.

I guess the things that I loved about this book were the way the authors made you both love and hate some of the characters. At some points in the book I just wanted to shake Teagan. And Aidan, please, as my friend would say 'Put your big girl panties on and move on.' Peter gave me the chills. I don't think I ever loved his character, though I could understand where he was coming from and pitied him more than hated him.

When you read this book you'll see all of the dynamics involving the characters, and the way the story is put together. You can appriciate that. The characters from the previous book and this one were one and the same, but now you ge to meet the other characters and see things from their points of view, and their minds eye.

I really hope you consider reading this book. I know it was a joyous read that I loved and I can't wait for the next one.

Next time he sees her, she's sitting in front of him in class, wowing his friends and causing unexplainable things to happen that only he seems to notice. But things really get strange (and complicated) when his dying grandfather tells him that he is part of an ancient order, the “Pessum Ire,” whose duty is to destroy witches. What does he do now, since he’s almost positive Samantha is a witch…and he’s crushing on her pretty hard?

Together, June and Enki will stage explosive, dramatic projects that Palmares Tres will never forget. They will add fuel to a growing rebellion against the government’s strict limits on new tech. And June will fall deeply, unfortunately in love with Enki. Because like all Summer Kings before him, Enki is destined to die.

Requiem by Lauren Oliver - March 5th 2013

Requiem (Delirium, #3)

Synopsis:

They have tried to squeeze us out, to stamp us into the past.

But we are still here.

And there are more of us every day.

Now an active member of the resistance, Lena has been transformed. The nascent rebellion that was under way in Pandemonium has ignited into an all-out revolution in Requiem, and Lena is at the center of the fight.

After rescuing Julian from a death sentence, Lena and her friends fled to the Wilds. But the Wilds are no longer a safe haven—pockets of rebellion have opened throughout the country, and the government cannot deny the existence of Invalids. Regulators now infiltrate the borderlands to stamp out the rebels, and as Lena navigates the increasingly dangerous terrain, her best friend, Hana, lives a safe, loveless life in Portland as the fiancĂ©e of the young mayor.

Maybe we are driven crazy by our feelings.

Maybe love is a disease, and we would be better off without it.

But we have chosen a different road.

And in the end, that is the point of escaping the cure: We are free to choose.

We are even free to choose the wrong thing.

Requiem is told from both Lena’s and Hana’s points of view. The two girls live side by side in a world that divides them until, at last, their stories converge.

Wicked Kiss by Michelle Rowen

Wicked Kiss (Nightwatchers, #2)Wicked Kiss by Michelle Rowen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
didn't like it it was ok liked it really liked it it was amazing (my current rating)

Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Date Published: February 26th 2013
Genre: Young Adult Paranormal Romance

First off I have to say that ending was mind blowing! I didn't know what to expect, but that definitely wasn't it. The ending was perfect.

Michelle Rowen wrote a supernatural story that kept you on you toes, once again. Starting where she left off, the story of Samantha Day continues. We were left in Dark Kiss with Samantha having lost her best friend Carly and having her aunt the evil demon Natalie die.

We come into Wicked Kiss with Sam trying to track down Stephen to get Carly's soul and her own soul back. Needless to say, things don't always go as planned. Between stolen kisses with Bishop, Kraven, and Colin (whoa, that's boy drama for you), and trying to save the greys and complete the mission, I'd say Sam's pretty busy. And it all gets worse when an angel starts making people commit suicide...

What did I think of this book? I loved it. I thought that this book was so much better than the last one. The deaths were saddening, and parts of the story tragic (you gotta feel for Roth, yes Roth, wait till you see what goes on there). But the whole forbidden love thing Sam and Bishop had going on was delicious. In a, your-soul-tastes-great kind of way.

And don't even get me started on Bishop's past. Yikes. That's some heavy stuff. Would I recommend this book to all you readers? Without a doubt. If you haven't read the first one, it should be top on your priority list. This book was golden. Another romantic paranormal must-read.

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. If you’re anything like me, you are probably hoarding books and even though you are excited about your latest book arrival, it might be a while before you get to review it.

Robin in the Hood by Diane J. Reed

Robin in the Hood

Publisher: Bandits Ranch
Date Published: October 14th 2012
Genre: Young Adult Contemporary

Synopsis:

“Is it any wonder I became a bank robber?” said Robin.
But she never dreamed she’d fall in love…

15-year-old Robin McArthur thinks she has it all figured out when it comes to bilking her wealthy dad for guilt money as a substitute for his genuine affection. Until one day he suffers a stroke, and she learns the brutal truth.

They’re broke.

And everyone from bankers to bookies has come to collect.

His only saving grace is what he reveals to Robin in between drools: He truly does love her, in spite of all his mistakes.

Panicked and desperate, Robin figures she has two choices. Either surrender to the pestering caseworker and live in a skanky foster home, or take a chance and sneak her dad out of the hospital to make a run for it. Little does she know that stealing a car and hitting the road means that before the day is through, she will rob her first bank.

Now an outlaw, Robin finds a backwoods trailer park to hide her dad from authorities. There, she encounters Creek, a local bad boy who also commits crimes to provide for their motley neighbors. Realizing she could use Creek’s help, Robin proposes an ingenious plan—they should team up to rob banks together. But when their partnership leads to a romance that turns Robin’s world upside down, she soon begins to discover that people are more precious than pocketbooks, and real love means opening your heart to the kinds of treasures money can’t buy…

So I finally bought it. I've seen this book around and it sounded really good. Something I'd enjoy as a light read. So I've bought it and I am planning on reviewing it. We'll see how that goes.

Joyous reading!

Dante Post - For the Girls

I thought I'd give you an update on thee Dante/V Mafia things I'm doing. I don't believe I showed any of you my awesome *cough* boring fan art. Okay, so I'm kind of choppy on Photoshop. And I really didn't know what what to put text wise on the image. Well here you go:

See! It's not bad per se, it's just not as fancy as some of the other peoples fan art. And for the fan video!

Cool. So I probably will have a blue badge soon. I hope  I do, anyway.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
didn't like it it was ok liked it really liked it (my current rating) it was amazing

Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Date Published: May 22nd 2012
Genre: Young Adult Paranormal Romance

The first thing I loved about this book was the cover. It was the first thing I noticed when browsing Goodreads. The second thing I noticed about this book was the name. Did you guys know that there is a whole line of products called Dark Kiss? Lotion, shower gel, bubble bath, etc. And they happen to be my favorite.

And then when I started reading I fell in love with the story. Michelle Rowen really knows how to keep us interested. I kept wanting to know more, read more, and fall into the story a bit more.

Samantha is your regular teenage girl with an unattainable crush. And then her crush kisses her... and unleashes freaky powers within her. Samantha meets Bishop, lost and confused, and helps him find someone lost. It gets really good then. Because he stabs the new guy with a golden dagger.

I thought this book was pretty awesome. It has everything I love in it. Romance, check. Paranormal/supernatural, check. Evil bitches, check. Awesome heroes, check. Little twists, check. Cocky/arrogant guys, check. Yup. Everything I love in YA is in this book.

Synopsis:

I don't do dangerous.

Smart, ĂĽber-careful, ordinary Samantha-that's me. But I just couldn't pass up a surprise kiss from my number-one unattainable crush. A kiss that did something to me...something strange. Now I feel hungry all the time, but not for food. It's like part of me is missing-and I don't know if I can get it back.

Then there's Bishop. At first I thought he was just a street kid, but the secrets he's keeping are as intense as his unearthly blue eyes. If he's what I think he is, he may be the only one who can help me. But something terrifying is closing in, and the one chance Bishop and I have to stop it means losing everything I ever wanted and embracing the darkness inside me....

The Obvious Game Blog Tour

Hey you guys! This is my first ever time participating in a blog tour, so tell me how I do! And boy do I have some exciting stuff for you! We all get to hear about how amazing The Obvious Game is, and it sure sounds pretty sweet, and a little bit about the author. We also have an interview with Rita Arens herself (and I did come up with the questions, they're not just a hand-out), and a GIVEAWAY! Sounds, great, right? Read on!

Blurb:

“Everyone trusted me back then. Good old, dependable Diana. Which is why most people didn’t notice at first.”

"Your shirt is yellow."

"Your eyes are blue."

"You have to stop running away from your problems."

"You're too skinny."

Fifteen-year-old Diana Keller accidentally begins teaching The Obvious Game to new kid Jesse on his sixteenth birthday. As their relationship deepens, Diana avoids Jesse's past with her own secrets -- which she'll protect at any cost.

Praise:

“I couldn’t put down The Obvious Game. Arens perfectly captures the hunger, pain and uncertainty of adolescence.” -- Ann Napolitano, author of A GOOD HARD LOOK and WITHIN ARM'S REACH

"THE OBVIOUS GAME is a fearless, honest, and intense look into the psychology of anorexia. The characters—especially Diana--are so natural and emotionally authentic that you’ll find yourself yelling at the page even as you’re compelled to turn it." -- Coert Voorhees, author of LUCKY FOOLS and THE BROTHERS TORRES

"Let’s be clear about one thing: there’s nothing obvious about The Obvious Game. Arens has written a moving, sometimes heart-breaking story about one girl’s attempt to control the uncontrollable. You can’t help but relate to Diana and her struggles as you delve into this gem of a novel." -- Risa Green, author of THE SECRET SOCIETY OF THE PINK CRYSTAL BALL

Interview with Rita Arens:

What inspiration did you have to write The Obvious Game?
Life …

Why did you decide to write The Obvious Game?
It was a story I felt I had to tell.

Who motivated you to start writing?
I started on my own around fifth grade. Back then, it was poetry. I guess I just never stopped.

When did you decide you were going to be a writer?
1997

I’m sure everyone wants to know, what is The Obvious Game?
It’s a game the characters use to talk to each other about hard subjects.

Where do the main characters come from? Are they totally fictional, or based off of real life people?
Most are composites. There are a few very minor characters who are totally fictional, but they don’t get much dialogue. I might think of one person’s sense of humor and another person’s quirks and mash them all together.

How do you like writing in the young adult genre? Is it more or less challenging then writing other genres?
My first book, SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK, was a parenting anthology taken from blogs, so this was very different. I edited that book and wrote just a few parts of it as opposed to a work that’s entirely mine. Fiction is a lot harder than truth, especially if you want there to be truth in the fiction, if that makes any sense.

Now that you’ve finished The Obvious Game, do you wish you could go back and change any of it?
Nope. I’m going to let it ride.

Is there a certain theme or idea that you want your readers to grasp while reading The Obvious Game?
There is no can’t, only won’t.

What does writing mean to you?
Sanity

Would you say the characters are a part of you, or you of them?
That’s a tough one. I don’t know the answer.

What plans do you have for the future involving your career as a writer?
I’m working on a second stand-alone YA novel right now called THE BIRTHRIGHT OF PARKER CLEAVES. I hope to make a go of this YA thing.

Does the story behind The Obvious Game come from your past or the past of someone you know?
Oh, totally mine.

How do you relate to your characters?
I spend a lot of time with them.

What advice can you give to people looking for a career in writing?
Read like a writer – not just for pleasure, but also to learn.

Publisher: HarperCollins

I LOVE HATE IT WHEN AUTHOR'S DO THAT! The ending left you wanting more. A lot more. You have questions unanswered, love triangles still up in the air, and hell breaking loose.

After I read Shatter Me I was TEAM ADAM all the way. But then I read Destroy Me. And suddenly I was TEAM WARNER. At the beginning of Unravel Me I was 80% sure Adam would end up with Juliet and I would be crying over Warner. Now? I'd say it's a fifty-fifty shot.

There wasn't all that much about Adam in Unravel Me. There wasn't a lot of Warner either. We were mainly caught up in Juliet's angst. I wanted more Warner. I don't know if I'm TEAM ADAM or TEAM WARNER anymore. I'll miss both of them if either of them die or end up alone.

You have got to understand that I love Tahereh Mafi's style of writing as much as I love the story she's written. I love the way she's created Juliet's mind. It's beautiful. Imaginative. Surreal. Extraordinary. It's magic.

In Unravel Me you have Juliet learning to harness her curses gifts and her hidden rage. Friendships begin and lives end. You have one helluva twist concerning Juliet's two lover boys. Don't ask because I won't tell. No spoilers from me. Read the damn book!

This book is just so, so amazing. It's one of my favorites in the entire world. It may even be better than the first. You have to read it, and I don't care what the nincompoops have to say--this book is the BOMB!

it's almost

time for war.

Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance.

She's finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch.

Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.

In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart—and Adam's life.

Just a little note from moi, The Kooky Bookworm. I think my local bookstore did something wrong with this book. I've looked everywhere, and they all say that this book came out on the 5th of February. I bought it on the 2nd. Maybe they had a newbie doing setup or something? I don't know, and I'm not complaining. I got to read the book before all of you! Mwahahaha! Only... I didn't actually read it right away because I was in the middle of a bunch of other books... but I could've, if I wanted to. Right. Yeah...
